I dropped out of high school, which made me feel insecure around people with education. Instead of continuing to feel that way, I started renting books on various subjects and studying the dictionary. Each night I wrote down ten words and put them in sentences. The next night, I reviewed them and the sentences, and then, wrote down ten more and so on. Later, I graduated from two colleges, and I have not stopped learning new things. I have certifications and diplomas from having learned other things. If I ever had to make a living doing other things, I can. We, all, need to be crossed trained, multi-talented, and be able to do as much as we can in life because, some types of jobs and positions may/will be cut or eliminated, especially in the event of a recession or depression (or progress) or if we just need more income or if there is a need to start saving some money. So, I know what you mean about being skilled/getting an education. It is VERY important. Also, do not rely upon anyone to take care of you, especially the government or a spouse. You may be sorry one day that you ever did (if this applies to you).
