Let me tell you a true story–one of many–that is so sad. First, let me say that I hope and pray that OUR Nation will do all it can possible do to avoid another war or the escalation of the wars in which our Nation is involved. Some people are ready in the blink of an eye to go to war to flex their muscles or in belief that it is the right thing to do to show our power as a Nation. Sometimes war IS necessary, but the world leaders must make every effort to prevent war with our violence, loss of lives, maiming people, and destroying so many lives.
I will give you a short version of the sad story I said I want to tell you about. There was a young man who enlisted before being drafted during the Vietnam War. He said he wanted to fight for his Country. Although he wanted to go, he was and always had been a gentle soul–never raising his voice or using any foul language: just one gentle soul. During the war, he was shot and taken aboard the Valley Forge (I believe) and after recuperating, he was sent back. At some point in time, he and some other soldiers were given a task to ‘take’ a certain hill. When he and the other soldiers got there, a group of our (American) soldiers lay dead with their penuses cut off and stuffed in their mouths. This story was told by that soldier when he lay in a hospital in a catatonic state, weighing 98 pounds from the 200 pounds he weighed when he was
shipped out to Viet Nam. Before returning home, he had lost a leg, and had other wounds, and most tragic, he subsequently loss his mind. There are other events and circumstances surrounding what happened to him after returning home, but I won’ go into it–at least not now. Without a doubt, there are thousands of other war stories that soldiers have lived and stories that need to be told. I think if some of those individuals who are so eager to have our Nation go to war, heard about some of the ravages of war or who had a family suffer through and because of war, then perhaps they would want world leaders to exhaust every possible means to prevent war. May we ALL pray to God Almighty for peace and love to prevail in our hearts and on the earth. Praise God.
